Philippines

Philippines is located in South East Asian region colonized by Spain our culture is a mix of Asian and Hispanic traditions with a very strong influence of United States. So if your a foreigner from the USA or other Western countries you would feel right at home since we have everything the West have McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Home Depot and everything in between is also available in the Philippines.

There is a big discrepancy between average person to poor in the Philippine the average employee earns around $15 dollars a day while the poor person can go $1 per day to make things worst this $1 is for the whole family with the average family size of 6.

Although the economy is doing good ranking 37th largest in the world, the Philippines remain to be poor ranking # 1 in sending man power abroad because the government can't provide jobs for its own people. The OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) are about 11 million and counting. So if you go to the Philippines, You will never find a Filipino who doesn't have a relative, friend or acquaintance that works abroad.
Its very common Filipinos work abroad for a better life.
They are the reason why the Philippines continued its growth even with the Global financial crisis, having 4.7% economic growth in 2009. Mining,BPO, Electronics, Automotive are industries that contribute to its continues growth.
Peoples Ethnic Background
The Philippine people called Filipinos are ethnically diverse 3.6% of their population are of European decent 10% are of Chinese descent but the majority of the population look Malay. Just to add more details even if they are minorieties the Filipinos of Spanish and Chinese ancestry hold much of the power in the Philippines

Religion/customs

80% of the Filipinos are Roman Catholic the rest of the 20% is shared by other religions. Our customs can go to the extremes sometimes. Some of us go to the cross ones a year to commemorate Jesus Christ and to atone for their sins. Christmas is a huge event in the Philippines when the 'Ber" months sets in, its Christmas time people light up their house and decorate them this goes until January. Longest Christmas in the world. Fiesta is also a custom in the Philippine celebrating a saints birth or something like that. Fiesta is also one people put up streamers all around. People cook food in their houses. Filipino's just love celebrating sometimes we find things to celebrate just to celebrate. Well like a victory of Manny Paqcuiao or when our National Basketball Team just became champs in Olympics, We would probably celebrate that=D

Food?
Filipino food is a bit strange but where else in the world can you sample delectable and tempting delicacies if not in the exotic country of Philippines. It is hardly surprising that Filipino food is often labeled as somewhat strange but in its own way, a unique mixture of eastern and western cuisine. After all, with nearly 400 years of outside influences, the Philippine cuisine is a fascinating blend of Malay, Spanish and Chinese cultures. To the Filipinos, food is important as it is an integral part of local art and culture as well as communal existence. The food in the picture is called halo-halo a mix ice, fruits, milk, ice cream and sugar it tastes great..

Be a tourist.
This picture was taken in Boracay.

I can't state this enough Filipinos are the most hospitable people in the world, ask a man in the street how to get to a place and the Filipino man would smile and gladly help you. Were not just hostpitable the place feels just like home. Party all night at bars or go shopping at Mall of Asia (the biggeest mall in Asia) or how about go scuba diving in Boracay.
Retired western folks come to the Philippines to settle down because the living conditions are cheap.

Ex. You earn 1500 dollars a month that's around 65 thousand pesos in the Philippines. Cars are cheaper here brand new cars go around $5000. There are A LOT of foreigners here Koreans come here for education and we don't disappoint. If you like it so much you can apply for a permanent residence where you can own your own business buy a house at the side of the beach. At $10 you can dine at a fine restaurant with great ambiance at $1500 per month you can leave like a king sleep all day and part all night.

We have everything here in the Philippines bad things, good things, very rich people and very poor ones. So don't believe everything you see on CNN our country unique a blend of Asian and Western.
